In 1963, the legendary Coach Darrell Royal led his University of Texas Longhorn football players to the state of Texas' first National Championship. In 1969 and 1970, he followed with two more.

In 1998, The University of Texas spent $90 million to give a new face and a new name to the football stadium that would house the year's Heisman Trophy winner. It became officially known as The Darrell K Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium.

Well, now it's 1999 -- and the only thing more amazing than Coach Royal's stadium....is his story.

Hall of Legends Sports presents this very special, award-winning look at the behind-the-scenes life of legendary University of Texas football coach, Darrell Royal. The incredible 60 minute THE STORY OF DARRELL ROYAL, now available exclusively on videocassette, is narrated by Matthew McConaughey, hosted by Cactus Pryor and told by Coach Royal and some of his closest friends, including country music legends such as Willie Nelson and Larry Gatlin; football heroes like Earl Campbell, James Street, Mack Brown and Keith Jackson; and politicians such as Governor George W. Bush. A portion of the proceeds from each tape will establish the University's Coach Mike Campbell Scholarship Fund.

Dallas native and Los Angeles-based movie producer, Richard Hull, had long sought to create a project which brought him back to work in his home state. "Having had my dad teach me that Darrell Royal may be about the closest thing that Texas sports has to offer to heaven, this just felt like the most perfect of fits to kick off our Hall of Legends Sports collectable series," Hull remarked. "The only hurdle was actually talking Coach Royal into believing that he is indeed a legend!" Mr. Hull's most recent movie, "She's All That," was released this year by Miramax Films (Disney) and, with over $60 million in domestic revenues alone, is now the most successful teenage comedy movie in history.

THE STORY OF DARRELL ROYAL is the first in a series of Hall of Legends Sports documentaries profiling the greatest coaching legends from around the world of college sports. "I think that people see this tape as an experience which will catapult them back to the days of Darrell's teams and their national titles," says Hull." And now that Coach Brown has done such a fantastic job of both returning Texas' tradition of winning football and of reminding us of the legends who laid the foundations to get us here, it's really built a huge public awareness for Darrell. So much of Darrell's career spanned a time in this country when we were battling social turmoil at home and a war overseas. And I think that people back then were looking for a hero. They found it in this man. Heck, if you don't believe me, just go look at the name on that big stadium at 21st and San Jacinto in Austin...it's now called The Darrell K. Royal / Texas Memorial Stadium."

And now, as a limited introductory offer, Hall of Legends Sports customers who purchase on-line can receive two months of Sports Illustrated magazine as a free trial offer...courtesy of Hall of Legends!
